BADMINTON: Sports for the over 50+ Crowd
The 2016 A-Z Blogging Challenge
My challenge for this year… I am planning to complete the A-Z Challenge this year by sharing an activity in which I still enjoy competing.
The Sport: BADMINTON (This is an outside sport.)
The Season: Spring/ Summer/ Fall
The Rules: Click Here
The Thrill: Thrill One: The best thrill would have to be the over-the-head-slam right at the opposing player’s hands, thus crippling his swing so that it ineffective, (Spoiler to those who find competition wrong- this does NOT cripple the opponent…It only cripples his ability to swing at the birdie.) Thrill Two: A well placed return for a diving save or a corner shot.
Full Disclosure: Your knees will feel the wear and tear of this sport. It is not a contact sport with the opponent, but likely if you are a passionate player… you will come in contact with the ground. Note to Cleaners- Grass stains are inevitable!
Written for the April (2016) Challenge: Blogging A to Z. Sports for the 50+ Crowd.
Great description – “crippling his swing!”

I played a lot of badminton back in my 20’s. It’s harder than squash because of all the running backwards and forwards. I hurt muscles in places I didn’t even know I had muscles!

Was your badminton on an indoor court. We play in the yard.

Yes, it was in the sports hall at university. I never had much luck outside – too much wind!

We only play outside here in the States. In the States… badminton is not really a ‘sport’… to those passionate players…please do not be a hater!

It can get pretty competitive over here. Even at our university club we had yelling, rackets getting thrown across the court…

I don’t know…I’ll be 59 in July and playing this game might put me at risk to break a hip….LOL Just kidding! I love badminton and play it with my grandkids when they come to visit in the summer.
