ZIGZAGS IN THE SKY

There’s nothing better than getting to sleep under a tin roof during a heavy rain or watching a lightening storm from the back porch.

I DIDN’T KNOW I KNEW HOW TO CHA-CHA

https://shesabadmother.wordpress.com/2013/12/28/one-step-forward-two-steps-back/

Why is it that when you take one step forward, the next day it often feels you have to move two steps back.

Is life really just a universal Parcheesi game?

Many times, advances with goals can be slow-moving… confusing.., even infuriating!

Focus on the good times and not the bad…

And then … … … …

Remember the Cha-Cha!

JUST TAKE A PEAK

After the weekend snows, the animals in my back year may run, they can’t hide.

I now know the hiding places of several of the rabbit… and cats the roam my yard.

I may have even spotted the tracks of a raccoon going toward the neighbors?

CHANGING YOUR MOTOR OIL

How to Change Car Oil

CHANGING YOUR MOTOR OIL

In a recent Popular Mechanics issue there was a great article about how often you should actually change your motor oil.

Who decided that motor oil over three months old was ‘bad’ motor oil?

If this is true, then shouldn’t there be expiration dates printed on motor oil cans?

I had never looked, but to my surprise… there was a FIVE-YEAR expiration date on one of my cans of motor oil.

So my next question, why five-years in a closed can, but only three-months in a closed engine?

Yes, I knew that USING the oil to lubricate the engine parts might cause a quota of ‘good-vs-bad’ on the mileage estimates… but then I wondered, who decided that?

“Quick-lube chains say 3,000 miles, auto manufacturers recommend 5,000 to 7,500 miles and synthetic oil companies, 10,000.”  ScientificAmerican

Not ever changing your oil will, of course,  void car warranties on their engines, but you might want to actually check to see what your car owner’s manual says about oil changes!

You are probably paying twice the price for changing oil than you need to be paying?

NOT A NEW INVENTION, BUT A NEW PURPOSE

NOT A NEW INVENTION, BUT A NEW PURPOSE

While I was reading Field and Stream, I stumbled across an innovative topic that I had dreamer of as a small child, but I had never thought would have happened in real life… Hunting with a Rifle Silencer

When I was little, I heard stories, and saw in the movies, of the bad guys killing their targets with a silencer so that they could escape into the casual society around them undetected.

My friends would tell stories of being on a deer hunt or a turkey hunt and taking the first shot… missing… and never having the chance again that day. The animals scattered at the harsh consequences of gun fire.

I jokingly told Ben, a friend when I was in sixth grade, that he should hunt using a silencer on his rifle. Then he could miss the first shot twice! We both laughed about it… and then made up terrifying, but quit successful, deer hunting stories until we fell asleep.

Now, to find out, silencers have been used in European hunting excursions for many, many years… and the prevalence of using a silencer (actually, a better name is a rifle suppressor), is catching on in the States.

“Sure silencers are for shooting, but they are also for hunting. I no longer go hunting without using a silencer and even bring extras for my friends to use so I don’t have to hear their loud guns.”       www.silencershop.com

WHO KNEW THAT A SALAD COULD BE A FEAST

WHO KNEW THAT A SALAD COULD BE A FEAST

I do not think that I had ever eaten a salad until I had graduated from college.

Now, I have a salad as a meal at least once a day.

My mainstays are the lettuce, tomatoes, and shredded.

Then I vary it with carrots and celery, croutons and diced meats. Sometimes I even go hog-wild a slice a cucumber.

HELP: I am not very creative with dressings… I don’t think that I am assisting any weight loss with the amount of French Dressing I love with my salad, but I don’t really know other choices…

If you have other alternatives…

Plus, as I was googling for pictures, I saw an apple sliced in a salad. It looked tasty? Is it? I am not extremely adventuresome to new things, so you will have to sell it!

SIESTAS: A WONDERFUL ‘GAP’ IN THE DAY

guy-32820_960_720Now that I am retired, it is a pleasure to still awaken in the morning to have my breakfast (pastries or bacon, toast, and scrambled eggs) and then complete some morning chores.

After lunch is a grand time to settle down with a new mystery thriller and read until I want to nap and enter one of my favorite author’s worlds. (Sometimes, the hour plus siesta is not as resting as I wish it could have been… if the murderer follows me in my dreams.)

Then I can usually awaken refreshed and continue with my day and still find myself awake for a 9:00 pm basketball game.
