TODAY’S QUOTE:

“Writing is always difficult, but easier with something to say. From “Bridge of Clay” by Marcus Zusak.

MY THOUGHTS:

Writing is always difficult for me… until I have the burning idea that just has to come out.

I use some of the same techniques that I taught my students to use in school to assist in discovering the burning ideas. One way I help myself get rid of being brain-dead is Brainstorming – coming us with different scenarios for my given problem.

Another solution is a spin-off of the 6-3-5 business brainstorming. I clarify the problem and then ask 6 different people creative solutions. I ask them to give me 3 answers each. Then I take the 18 possibilities and narrow down the choices to the 5 best ones. Usually, something clicks for me before I get to the last step.

A third way I beat being brain-dead is to start my story with a dialogue line and get the main characters talking. They often let me know what the storyline is supposed to be doing.
