POETIC ELEMENTS OF FICTION

Using my class’s go-to site for basic literary information, vocabulary.com, I found that there are 18 poetry literary elements (I’m sure that there are others):

  • Assonance
  • Alliteration
  • Ballad
  • Consonance
  • Epic
  • Haiku
  • Limerick
  • Metaphor
  • Meter
  • Ode
  • Onomatopoeia
  • Personification
  • Repetition
  • Rhyme
  • Rhythm
  • Simile
  • Sonnet
  • Stanza

The ones in RED are probably not that helpful in writing fiction, but mastering the techniques of including the remainder can add to your reader’s pleasure.

Written for FANDANGO’S ONE-WORD-CHALLENGE: POETIC.

I'd love to hear from you. It's nice to know other people are out there.
