I used to drive my parents crazy, I suspect, when (at five or six) I would yodel as a cowboy this song at the top of my lungs while playing outside.

At least, they always knew where I was!

Facts about Home on the Range

  • It is the ‘unofficial anthem” on the Old West.
  • It was written by Dr. Brewster M. Higley of Smith County, Kansas, in a poem entitled “My Western Home” in 1872 … but probably made famous by Gene Autry.
  • It is the state song of Kansas.
  • The Western Writers of America voted it as one of the Top 100 western songs of all time.

FYI: Now, instead of my home being on the range, my range usually only encompasses my home.
