NAPOWRIMO- 2017: #13

National Poetry Writing Month- 2017

REQUIREMENTS: Today we were asked to write a ghazal. The ghazal is a poetic form with rhyming couplets and a refrain. It is often about the pain of separation.(

NOTE: I have butchered the form (meter and couplets) completely- Apologies!- but I think I captured the use of the refrain.

Thanks to the Rain

Bottom of the ninth and bases loaded. Blacken sky erupts. To be resumed later.

Thanks to the rains.

Hand-in-hand with picnic blanket. Diamond ring concealed. Engagement postponed.

Thanks to the rains.

Recycling enthusiasts rejuvenating the winter’s runoff. Early morning deluge. Activities suspended.

Thanks to the rains.

John Deere tractor and baler with wagons unattended. Local field hands sent home ‘til the morrow.

Thanks to the rains.

Dozens of dazzling daffodils… lanes teeming with tulips… Rambunctiously, radiant rhododendrons and the unabashed azaleas are all abloom.

Thanks to the rains.
