“She doesn’t start. Likely more’n just the battery.”
“That oil spot? Grandpa Jack complained about her leaking for years.”
“Been meaning to move her to the garage”
“Who am I kiddin’?”
“Daisy May’s been parked since I had her towed from the estate sale eleven years ago.”
“Sure had high hopes… … So many memories.”
I looked up when I realized that I was the only one taking. Daniel, the neighbor’s youngest, was just standing there smiling at me.
“You see, I’m taking auto shop this year,” he said. I’d love to get Daisy May up and running again. The shop teacher said we each needed a year-long project… I thought of Daisy May. You could help… if you wanted?”
I chuckled. That gleam in his eye as he looked at Daisy May said it all. That was how I felt.
“She’s yours… …. And yes, I loved to help you every now and then.”
