“Honey… Honey…” I nudge him. “Wake up!”  I nudge him harder. “It’s time!!” I push him out of bed onto the floor.

“What is wrong with you?”

“The baby…”

“Now?”

“Of course not, Marcus. I just pushed you out of bed because I thought you might want to talk.”

Marcus was now standing somewhat upright adjusting his boxers and trying to get his t-shirt back down across his protruding belly.

“Hold on.” Marcus was now pants’ed  and was re-buttoning his shirt for the third time. “The suitcases are packed. All we have to do is call the doctor and get to Remington Memorial.”

“The doctor’s been called.” I replied. “But have you looked outside?”

Racing to the window, the street lights illuminated a winter wonderland. “It is beautiful.”

“Marcus, the car…”

Marcus looked out a saw the problem. The snowplows had wonderfully opened the street but they had covered our small yellow Volkswagen.

“Don’t worry, honey,” was the reply as he was grabbing his coat and gloves. “It’ll be free in a jiff.”

“I have already called the EMTs.” I tried to soften the blow. “Go down and flag them in, please.”

Relieved, Marcus nodded and dashed toward the elevators.
