Fierce

One has to be fierce in today’s new world.

Standing on the sidelines, life will pass you by.

You won’t notice it.

Passionate beliefs are being legislated and imprisoned.

Where are the leaders for our future youth that will allow one’s character to speak?

Violence as a way of achieving racial justice is both impractical and immoral. I am not unmindful of the fact that violence often brings about momentary results. Nations have frequently won their independence in battle. But in spite of temporary victories, violence never brings permanent peace. -Martin Luther King, Jr.

Hating people because of their color is wrong. And it doesn’t matter which color does the hating. It’s just plain wrong. -Muhammad Ali

The word ‘racism’ is like ketchup. It can be put on practically anything – and demanding evidence makes you a ‘racist.’ -Thomas Sowell

Share Your World – 2016

Week #35

  • List 2 things you have to be happy about?
  • If you could take a photograph, paint a picture or write a story of any place in the world, what and where would it be?
  • Should children be seen and not heard?
  • List at least five of your favorite first names.

List 2 things you have to be happy about?

Happiness Factor #1. Our school FINALLY has air conditioning. I have taught 30+ years. I get to retire being cool. (Hopefully… on many levels?)

Happiness Factor #2. Rafael Nadal has recovered enough to play tennis in the Grand Slam events again. I am sure that this makes him happy as well. (I have very few sports heroes left that are still paling avidly their sports. They are getting a old as I am.)

If you could take a photograph, paint a picture or write a story of any place in the world, what and where would it be?

  • Writing a Story- Since I blog or write daily (usually) I get to write about any place that my heart desires.
  • Painting a Picture- I have taken a water color class. (MISTAKE!) The class was not a mistake, but I quickly found that this was not a skill set that I personally possessed!
  • Take a Photograph- There are far too many answers!!!! The first one that I would have to pick would be to go to Europe and photograph the great castles.

Should children be seen and not heard?

Seen and not heard… there are times as a teacher that I might consider this statement a good thing…. But actually, I love hearing what grand thing their minds can create!

List at least five of your favorite first names.

I am going to be a rebel. I only have four.

  • Liam
  • Adrian
  • Ian
  • Vaughan

ALIDAYS1

There are many men from yesteryear that I admire.

Sometimes, they are men that the entire world holds in high esteem. Sometimes they are men that many in the world would wonder about.

I pick the men I admire because of their abilities to take a stance, allow the sacrifice, yet continue to stand.

No man is perfect. In each, you will find flaws.

But many men have a fine and noble strand of integrity within them that the world should see, admire, and mimic it if can.

Here are a few other quotes from the man who called himself The Great One.

“Service to others is the rent you pay for your room here on earth.”

“Only a man who knows what it is like to be defeated can reach down to the bottom of his soul and come up with the extra ounce of power it takes to win when the match is even.”

“Impossible is just a big word thrown around by small men who find it easier to live in the world they’ve been given than to explore the power they have to change it. Impossible is not a fact. It’s an opinion. Impossible is not a declaration. It’s a dare. Impossible is potential. Impossible is temporary. Impossible is nothing.”

“He who is not courageous enough to take risks will accomplish nothing in life.”

“A man who views the world the same at 50 as he did at 20 has wasted 30 years of his life.”

“I hated every minute of training, but I said, ‘Don’t quit. Suffer now and live the rest of your life as a champion.’”

“A man who has no imagination has no wings.”

“Hating people because of their color is wrong. And it doesn’t matter which color does the hating. It’s just plain wrong.”

“Live everyday as if it were your last because someday you’re going to be right.”

Mr. Ali, sir…. You are missed.

Mistakes… They are part of life.

In all likelihood, a world-changer has to alter his path every single day because of an error or miscalculation.

Mistakes are inevitable. Own up…Move on.

Mistakes – or at least the possibility of a gaffe- keeps you on your toes.  The unknown keeps life exciting!

Do not be a person who plays it so safe that mistakes are rare.

Mistakes can sometimes lead to great achievements.

Knowing that a mistake is possible allows us to pay more attention to the magnificent ride called life.

Mistakes are inevitable.

NOTE TO SELF: Shoot for the stars. A miscalculation and a forced moon landing is still a major step! Rejoice!
