“Hey, Porter”… March 21st

One of the first Johnny Cash songs to be recorded. It was written about Johnny’s return to the States after his tour of duty with the United States Air Force.

At Sun Records recording studio, Johnny Cash had an unscheduled audition with Sam Phillips. It did not go well. But after Johnny left, Mr. Phillips heard the lyrics of Hey, Porter. He called Johnny Cash back in the next day for a recording session. And as they say… the rest is history.

Written for Reminiscing the Arts: March 21st.
