THE WOUNDED ‘STRANGER’
We were within a mile-and-a-half of the service roads when we found it.
“Mandy… It’s alive?”
Incredulously, the adventurous couple watched as one arm of this haired-being reached out and grasped the rock edifice.
Suddenly, it was sitting upright.
“Bāng zhù,” it muttered. “Bāng zhù.”
“What’s it saying?”
“Asking for help?”
“What’s it need?”
“Probably wants us to keep those vultures away … get it to a place of safety.”
“I don’t want to touch it!”
“Don’t be rude!”
“It doesn’t speak English.”
“Your tone is rude.”
“Too bad…That creature is…”
“Mandy… Stop.”
Slowing kneeling beside of the creature, Matthew placed his shoulder under the creature’s armpit. Immediately, the creature tried to arise.
“Mandy…Help him!”
Reluctantly, Mandy stood close to the other’s side.
Stumbling forward, it seemed to take the lead. It was leading them toward the forested area.
“Just keep in step. Let him take us to where he wants to go.”
“This isn’t what I bargained for.”
“I can’t believe this is happening. We’re going to a Pinyin village.”
“I’m not worried about our arrival. I’m more concerned, will they let us leave?”
“Kindness is always rewarded.”
No more than three hundred meters into the dense glade, the wounded creature paused.
Just ahead … three wood-framed huts encircled a small fire.

It was quite funny watching the couple trying to figure out what the creature was saying. 😀 but wouldn’t they know it’s crying for help by its voice? Just a curious thought. Nice story.

It was specking Chinese. (I hope?) A Nepal yeti?

Yes it was speaking Chinese. Maybe a yeti? Or a small lost hiker?

Hmm. I wonder what lies ahead for them. Do they become dinner for the creature or do they meet some new friends. Great story.

I loved this story Roger. It shows how we are often afraid of the unknown. I like your line, “Kindness is always rewarded.”

Cool, they found the Yeti (I’m thinking). I hope their kindness really is rewarded and they don’t end up as dinner!

You have read my inferences correctly! I was hoping that I have my ducks- or yeti(s)- in a row!

It seems like a Yeti. If there are such things and I believe there are, I believe they are gentle. Great story!

Great story! It sure kept my interest! I’m wondering why the creature paused….maybe to tell them to run while they had the chance, since they were kind enough to help.

Oh dear, good Samaritans to be rewarded or dinner for the tribe. Great story, always enjoy one that lets you decided how it ends. Or is there a chapter 2?
