A body suddenly crashed through a plate glass window at the Brigadier’s house.
Immediately grabbing his wife and sons, the brigadier had them escorted into the safe room.
Once “Situation Secure” had been called, the brigadier joined his men in the sunroom.
Seven relaxed faces met him as he entered the glassed-in arboretum. “It’s nice to see the likelihood of my demise taken so casually,” he grumbled.
“Sorry, Sir.” All seven guards barked simultaneously.
There was a brief chuckle from the guard closet to the broken window.
“Sir, the enemy combatants have been captured. One eliminated.”
“How many were there?”
“Any identification found?”
“Yes, Sir. One male cardinal and a lone Cooper hawk. Apparently the cardinal was seeking escape into the sanctuary when it hit the glass. The accelerating Cooper was into its dive and crashed through the glass barriers. The hawk is dead, sir. The cardinal ricocheted off. Your youngest son is trying to resuscitate it at this moment, Sir.”
